Jay McCallister – GHAC Chairman

Jay McCallister is a lifelong Hilltop resident. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Maria since 1989, is the father of three daughters and has 3 grandchildren. He has been a master carpenter for over 40 years specializing in custom built furniture, cabinets and restoring antiques. He has been a Hilltop commissioner since 2010. He is the founder and coordinator of the Great Western Blockwatch and Civic Association and has initiated graffiti removal programs, community clean-ups and the Hilltop public safety festival, also known as the Hilltop Beach Party. The Beach Party averages over 500 residents each year. He is a graduate of Franklin Heights High School, Paul C. Hayes Technical School and the Columbus Police Citizen’s Police Academy. He enjoys gardening and music and plays many different instruments. He and his family have rescued many cats, dogs and other animals. Greg Large, GHAC Vice-Chair

Greg Large has been a Hilltop resident for over 50 years and he is a West High School graduate. Following high school attended The Ohio State University and then served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for 8 years. Licensed as a real estate agent since 1978, Greg is a member in good standing with the Columbus Board of Realtors, The Ohio Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Sharry Carey – Secretary
Elected Term Expires 2018
Sharry has been a resident of Highland West since 1986. She has a daughter, a son, and an 11-year old granddaughter. She retired in 2010 after a 33 year career with the Columbus Dispatch in the IT field. She has been active with Highland West Neighbors Association in the role of Secretary/Treasurer and has participated in the many community functions of the HWNA along with other neighborhood functions. She volunteers with Ohio Consumers for Heath Coverage in support of affordable health care. She is an avid dog walker and uses this time to keep up with reporting code violations in the area. She likes to quilt and attend art and craft shows as time allows.

Rich Riley – Treasurer
Elected Term Expires 2019
Richard Riley is a lifelong resident of the Hilltop. He attended W. Broad Elementary School, Westmoor Junior High School and West High School, graduating in 1973. Riley graduated from the Ohio State School of Hair Styling in 1975 and then went on to Bowling Green University and Ohio State University, earning a degree in Business Administration. Richard has been in business as a barber in the Hilltop community since the 1970’s. He serves on three boards, Westgate Neighbors Association., Hilltop Business Association, and Hilltop Kiwanis where he was president in 2009 and returned to that position again in 2014. He is a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and St. Mary Magdalene where he performs in both the Praise and Worship and Folk groups. Riley is proud to speak about his large family. “We still have Sunday dinner each week. I will always live and work on the Hilltop and hope to make it a better community!”


JD Groves

Mr. Groves comes to the GHAC by way of West Broad elementary, Westmoor middle, and West High School, class of 1994.
Having attended CSCC, Mr. Groves completed coursework for a bachelor of science in Business from Shawnee State University in 2000. Additionally, Mr. Groves received his MBA from Devry’s Keller graduate school of management.
From a practical standpoint, Commissioner Groves brings 10+ years of small-medium size business sales and development experience to the GHAC. Additionally, Mr. Groves has qualified expertise in improving business efficiency processes.
Commissioner Groves is a long time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
An avid sports fan Mr. Groves played collegiate baseball and enjoys watching Ohio State football.


William Huffman
Elected Term Expires 2019
Bill was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio in the Brookshire Addition of the Hilltop. He attended West high School and went on to serve our Country in the United States Navy from 1969-1974. As a past member of the GHAC, He served on all committees pertaining to the GHAC from 1988 to 1998. His experience has been centered around Customer Service and now is the Operations Manager for the Friends of the Hilltop which is a 501c3 non-profit Community Organization. He is Responsible for the day to day operations and the Building of Partnership throughout our Great Hilltop. Bill is married and enjoys working for FOTH and also as a rental agent on weekends at Woodbury Garden homes here on the Westside.

C. Shawn Maddox

Shawn Maddox has been a Hilltop resident for 25 years, purchasing a home here after marrying Debbie Whitehead, a lifelong resident of the Hilltop. Shawn is a founding member and was the first vice president of the Westgate Neighbors Association from the organization’s beginning in 2008 through 2013. Shawn has worked to help promote Westgate and build relationships to improve the area. Shawn works as a Financial Business Advisor and has been employed by Nationwide Insurance for over 20 years.

Judy Manley

Nancy Rhynard
Appointed Term Expires 2018
A Columbus native, now residing in Brown Township, Nancy has been involved in Hilltop Community efforts to include commercial property ownership. Her civic volunteerism includes starting the Highland West Merchants and Residents Blockwatch, active roles in the Hilltop Business Association as Treasurer and Economic Development issues primarily on the West Broad and neighboring corridors. Currently an active member of the Columbus Board of Realtors. Nancy’s philosophy in community strength is bringing commercial business and residents together to build vitality in the community.
A graduate of Otterbein College and Master’s from The Ohio State University, Nancy spent 17 years teaching college and continues with active roles in youth activities, 4-H, and scholarship foundations for youth.
