Jay McCallister – GHAC Chairman

Jay McCallister is a lifelong Hilltop resident. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Maria since 1989, is the father of three daughters and has 3 grandchildren. He has been a master carpenter for over 40 years specializing in custom built furniture, cabinets and restoring antiques. He has been a Hilltop Commissioner since 2010. He is the founder and coordinator of the Great Western Blockwatch and Civic Association and has initiated graffiti removal programs, community clean-ups and the Hilltop public safety festival, also known as the Hilltop Beach Party, which averages over 500 residents each year. He is a graduate of Franklin Heights High School, Paul C. Hayes Technical School and the Columbus Police Citizen’s Police Academy. He enjoys gardening and music and plays many different instruments. He and his family have rescued many cats, dogs and other animals. With a passion for serving the community, his door is always open to help. William Huffman – GHAC Vice-Chairman

Bill was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio in the Brookshire Addition of the Hilltop. He attended West High School and went on to serve our Country in the United States Navy from 1969-1974. As a past member of the GHAC, He served on all committees pertaining to the GHAC from 1988 to 1998. His experience has been centered around Customer Service and now is the Operations Manager for the Friends of the Hilltop which is a 501c3 non-profit Community Organization. He is responsible for the day to day operations and the Building of Partnership throughout our Great Hilltop. Bill is married and enjoys working for FOTH and also as a rental agent on weekends at Woodbury Garden homes here on the Westside.

Rich Riley – Treasurer

Richard Riley is a lifelong resident of the Hilltop. He attended W. Broad Elementary School, Westmoor Junior High School and West High School, graduating in 1973. Riley graduated from the Ohio State School of Hair Styling in 1975 and then went on to Bowling Green University and Ohio State University, earning a degree in Business Administration. Richard has been in business as a barber in the Hilltop community since the 1970’s. He serves on three boards, Westgate Neighbors Association., Hilltop Business Association, and Hilltop Kiwanis where he was president in 2009 and returned to that position again in 2014. He is a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and St. Mary Magdalene where he performs in both the Praise and Worship and Folk groups. Riley is proud to speak about his large family. “We still have Sunday dinner each week. I will always live and work on the Hilltop and hope to make it a better community!”

Nikol Madison – Secretary

Nikol Madison grew up on the Hilltop with her grandparents and two older brothers, graduating as Valedictorian of West High school in 1997, and receiving a Presidential Scholarship to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, Nikol graduated from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and worked in the technology industry until deciding to attend law school in 2005. Nikol graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2008 and practiced civil and corporate law until transitioning her career into business in 2013.
In her current role at Fifth Third Bank, Nikol identifies and assesses risks and assists her line of business partners in developing strategies and implementing controls, policies, and procedures to increase effectiveness and efficiency and mitigate risks.  Nikol has a Doberman Pinscher, twelve nieces and nephews, one great niece, and lots of little cousins and enjoys baking sweet treats and spending time with the little ones to keep her young at heart.
Nikol’s family (the Potts/Fosters/Weavers) have a history of living on and serving the Hilltop community for over 100 years, and she is excited to carry on the legacy of service to this great community!

Zerqa Abid
Appointed Term Expires 2021
Zerqa Abid serves as the Hilltop Commissioner since September 2018.
She is the Founder and Executive Director of MY Project USA. She is a mother, a philanthropist, a writer, a public speaker, a social/political activist, a community organizer, a campaign consultant and a small-business owner. Columbus Alive has listed her on their 2018 People to Watch list.
Abid is serving the Hilltop Community since 2015 through her organization MY Project USA. She worked tirelessly to address the violence, drugs and gangs situation in the Wedgewood Village Apartments in 2017. As a result of her work, the crimes have dropped down significantly. There has not been any shooting for more than a year. She started a soccer program in the area “Hilltop Tigers.” Their U13 team won the championship at the Mid Ohio Select Soccer League Tournament in Fall 2018. Her food pantry in their thrift store “MY Deah’s” on Sullivant Ave., serves more than 100 families on every Saturday morning.
Abid is also a founding member and the President of Muslims for Ohio PAC, a political organization of Muslims in Ohio. She has served on the Hilliard Education Advisory Council. She served as the PTO President of the Hilliard Weaver Middle School. She is a member of Hilliard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association as well. In the past, she has worked at NBC News. She was the first General Manager of The City Channel of the ARY Digital Network of Pakistan. Through her overseas company, she also organized international trade and consumer shows.
She is a Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina State University. She received “Norma & Wally Ausley Merit Scholarship” for being “The Outstanding Student of Mass Communications” in 2000. She is also a member of Golden Key International Society.

Neal Bronder

Our family has lived on Logwood Lane in the Hunting Ridge neighborhood for 30 years. My three sons graduated from Franklin Heights High School and attended the Ohio State University. My wife Brenda works at West Franklin and Darbydale Elementary Schools as a librarian.
I am CEO, Vice President, and partner at Renier Construction. We are a design/build general contractor building commercial and light industrial projects in Central Ohio and throughout the Midwest. I am responsible for Pre-Construction Services at Renier. I work with architects and engineers to design projects that meet our client’s needs, manufacturer’s branding programs, local zoning codes, and local building codes with responsibilities for budgeting, bidding, purchasing, and contracting with trade contractors. I also coordinate soil testing, environmental testing, hazardous material removal, and utility applications on behalf of our clients. The last project we completed in the Greater Hilltop Area was the Bobby Layman Chevrolet project.
I am active in my church and Scouting.

JD Groves

Mr. Groves comes to the GHAC by way of West Broad Elementary, Westmoor Middle, and West High School, class of 1994. Having attended CSCC, Mr. Groves completed coursework for a Bachelor of Science in Business from Shawnee State University in 2000. Additionally, Mr. Groves received his MBA from Devry’s Keller Graduate School of Management.
From a practical standpoint, Commissioner Groves brings 10+ years of small-medium size business sales and development experience to the GHAC. Additionally, Mr. Groves has qualified expertise in improving business efficiency processes.
Commissioner Groves is a long-time member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
An avid sports fan, Mr. Groves played collegiate baseball and enjoys watching Ohio State football.

Josh Maddox

Josh Maddox is a lifelong Hilltop resident, purchasing a home in 2016 located within a five-minute walk to either his parent’s or grandparent’s homes. He attended Westgate Elementary, St. Mary Magdalene, and graduated from Bishop Ready High School in 2009. Josh went on to obtain his Bachelor’s in Liberal Studies from Bowling Green State University. He currently works in a regulatory department for Nationwide Financial. Josh is a Certified Fraud Examiner and holds a Series 6 securities license.
As a member of local Troop 33, Josh reached the level of Eagle Scout in 2006. He enjoys home improvement projects, European car events, and attends as many concerts as possible.
Josh strives to bring transparency and awareness to the Commission. He wants to ensure the public is as informed as possible on what is happening in their community.

Shawn Maddox

Shawn Maddox has been a Hilltop resident for 25 years, purchasing a home here after marrying Debbie Whitehead, a lifelong resident of the Hilltop. Shawn is a founding member and was first Vice-President of the Westgate Neighbors Association from the organization’s beginning in 2008 through 2013. Shawn has worked to help promote Westgate and build relationships to improve the area. He works as a Financial Business Advisor and has been employed by Nationwide Insurance for over 20 years. As a Commissioner, Shawn works towards increasing public awareness of Zoning matters on the Hilltop.

Dan was born and raised in the Hilltop Area in Holly Hill.  His parents worked hard to send he and his four siblings to Bishop Ready High School. Dan graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Social Work. He has worked in social services and business administration for over thirty years. Dan moved back to the Hilltop in 2007 and now lives in Brookshire which makes a total of 36 years living in the Hilltop Area. His mom and two brothers also live in the Hilltop. There are three characteristics that describe Dan… a problem solver, an avid learner and he seeks to understand the big picture. This led Dan to pursue an Executive Masters Degree in Public Administration from Ohio University. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute his time as well as to learn from and help represent his neighbors in this community he loves.
